Online music PR

James and the Prescription team are a joy to work with. They’ve always given some valuable exclusives, and they’re lovely people to boot.

Why online PR matters

When it comes to music publicity, a strong digital music PR campaign is more important than ever before. For journalists and consumers, the web is usually the first port of call when investigating an artist, so your online profile needs to be developed and managed effectively.

Furthermore, many online versions of newspapers and magazines have much larger readerships than their print counterparts, so the opportunity for exposure can actually be significantly bigger online than in print.

We are acutely aware of the importance of online media, and have consequently developed excellent relationships with key staff at key national newspaper websites, webzines, blogs, portals, ISPs and social networks. Be it at Twitter, the Guardian Online, AOL,, Nokia, Pitchfork or, we know who to talk to - and how.

Key aims for our clients

When we embark on an online music PR campaign for our artists, we aim to ensure that they are:

  • highly visible online

  • presented in the right way

  • building momentum

  • controlling the flow of favourable content.

We pay particular attention to how we pick and negotiate the right premieres and exclusives to maximise coverage from key areas.

We don’t treat online PR as a way of grabbing any exposure on any site, but rather as an exercise is controlling your online profile and developing it in the correct way.  It’s about delivering the right content to the right people at the right time - and devising ways to maximise the longevity of the messages you want to get out there.

Our online music PR clients

We work with a wide range of clients on online music PR campaigns - key labels and distributors include Universal Music and Proper Records, for whom we also provide some European digital PR services.

Artists we’ve worked with on online music PR campaigns include The Velvet Underground, Roger Waters, Slint, The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Charlatans and Big Deal. We’ve also worked on high-profile film soundtracks, including Scott Pilgrim VS The World and two seperate Wes Anderson projects - Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom.

We’ve also built strong relationships with key bloggers and the Hype Machine network. We helped the band Generationals to the very top of the Hype Machine charts, and in 2014 helped Girl Band reach over 25,000 plays on Soundcloud, with placement on nearly 50 key tastemaker blogs - including Pitchfork, Stereogum, Pigeons & Planes, The Line Of Best Fit and more - in under a month.
